Russ August & Kabat Prevails on Behalf of Fred Segal
Russ August & Kabat attorneys Steven M. Goldberg and Robert F. Gookin prevailed in a two week jury trial for fraud and breach of contract. Stepping in the month before trial, Goldberg and Gookin represented Fred and Michael Segal in a dispute surrounding a lease contract and the use of the "Fred Segal" trademark and trade name. The Russ August and Kabat team won a complete defense verdict on Plaintiff's claims for fraud and breach of contract and obtained a significant money judgment for the Segals on their cross-claims for breach of contract, conversion and trademark infringement.

Russ August & Kabat Defeats Attempt to Reopen the Estate of Marlon Brando
Russ August & Kabat attorneys Michael S. Brophy and Robert F. Gookin successfully represented Avra Douglas, Larry Dressler and Mike Medavoy, the discharged co-executors of the (closed) Estate of Marlon Brando, in a State of California Court of Appeal. The unanimous Court of Appeal affirmed the probate court's dismissal of plaintiff Deborah Brando's (nee Presley) petition seeking to probate an earlier version of Marlon Brando's will and to reverse all of the probate orders relating to the closed Estate of Marlon Brando.
