Sarah Wang is a partner at Russ August & Kabat, where she represents clients in complex intellectual property litigation. Ms. Wang has significant trial experience including serving as both plaintiff and defense counsel in federal district courts throughout the country, the Federal Circuit, at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and in arbitration. Ms. Wang has represented clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, and medical devices industries.
Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, Ms. Wang was an attorney at Latham & Watkins LLP and Paul Hastings LLP with experience representing innovators in life sciences patent disputes. Ms. Wang also represented pro bono clients in cases involving constitutional violations, including obtaining a favorable settlement on behalf of a publisher for violation of its First Amendment rights. Ms. Wang graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief for the John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property Law (RIPL) and was a teaching assistant for IP legal writing.
Ms. Wang has substantial trial experience, and has won and obtained highly favorable settlements for her clients, including:
- Represented a multinational medical device and healthcare company that obtained favorable rulings that led to settlement prior to trial
- Represented a pharmaceutical company in trial before the District of Delaware and appeal to the Federal Circuit that led to its launch of a groundbreaking drug for the treatment of sleep disorders
- Represented a multinational medical device and healthcare company in arbitration involving a patent dispute over a surgical device, leading to a complete victory on behalf of her client
- Represented a brand pharmaceutical company in Hatch-Waxman suit in challenge before the District of New Jersey for its innovative drug treating a vitamin deficiency, resulting in favorable settlement
- Represented a brand pharmaceutical company in Hatch-Waxman litigation before the District of New Jersey for an analgesic drug, resulting in a favorable ruling at trial that prevented the launch of generic competitors
In addition, Ms. Wang’s trial and litigation experience enables her to advise companies in protecting and developing their intellectual property, including through portfolio management and advising in various strategic transactions in the United States and internationally.
Ms. Wang currently serves on the board of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court.
Ms. Wang is a member of the Illinois, New York and New Jersey bars, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
