Russ August & Kabat’s (RAK) patent trial team, led by Marc Fenster and Reza Mirzaie, won a dramatic and total victory on behalf of its client, MR Technologies, against hard drive giant Western Digital, which was represented by Latham & Watkins LLP. Fenster and Mirzaie were assisted by Dale Chang, Brian Ledahl, Matt Aichele, Jacob Buczko, Minna Chan, and Paul Kroeger.
The jury awarded more than $262,000,000 in royalties to MR Technologies for Western Digital’s infringement of its patents for increasing storage capacity on disk drives.
In a statement to Law360, Fenster said, “We are very gratified with the jury’s verdict. This jury was very technically sophisticated and completely engaged throughout the two-week trial.”
The patents-in-suit are U.S. Patent Nos. 9,928,864 and 11,138,997.
