Jacob R. Buczko is a partner at Russ August & Kabat. Jacob’s practice focuses on intellectual property and patent litigation. He represents clients in a wide range of industries, including electronics, communications, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical.
Jacob frequently handles the damages aspects of litigation. He has orchestrated numerous successful patent damages models, from pre-trial planning, through trial, and on to appeals. Representative matters include:
- MR Technologies, GMBH v. Western Digital Technologies, Inc., Case No. 8:22-CV-01599-JVS: Jury verdict and judgment entered in the amount of $379,656,308 for infringement of a patent related to physical hard disk drive architecture.
- Solas OLED Ltd. v. Samsung Display Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronic Co., Ltd., and Samsung Electronics America, Inc., Case No. 2:19-CV-00152-JRG: Jury verdict and judgment entered in the amount of $77,737,543 (including an award of enhanced damages) for infringement of patents related to OLED display and touch sensor technology.
- Pavo Solutions, LLC v. Kingston Technology Company, Inc., Case No. 8:14-CV-01352-JLS: Jury verdict and judgment entered in the amount of $13,559,229.27 for infringement of a patent related to flash drive architecture as well as enhanced damages. Damages upheld on appeal at Pavo Sols. LLC v. Kingston Tech. Co., Inc., 35 F.4th 1367 (Fed. Cir. 2022).
Jacob has also handled countless other matters that have settled prior to trial.
Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, Jacob practiced at Kaye Scholer LLP and Kirkland & Ellis. Jacob is a graduate of Columbia Law School where he was Editor of the Columbia Science & Technology Law Review. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology/Molecular Genetics from the University of Maryland in College Park.
